If you were to mention satellite internet to the average person they would most likely not have a very good idea of what you were talking about. Perhaps they might have heard of it, maybe knew someone who had seen it used on the Discovery Channel at some point, but they would not have any real working knowledge of what it is. The run of the mill techie the mechanics of internet via satellite is not too difficult, but the rest of us needs this simplified a bit more before we can wrap our heads around the workings of the concept.

The concept behind satellite internet is that through the use of a land based dish and a satellite in space, people can access the internet from almost anywhere in the world regardless of how remote it is. While this is an extremely simplified description of what actually goes on, that is the general idea behind the whole operation. Two of the most important things to consider when thinking about accessing the internet in this fashion are making sure to get the right equipment and being aware of the positioning of this equipment.
