CDs, also known as Compact Discs, are a simpler version of recording data and storing them whereas DVD is a complex form of the same. It is a kind of disk with a larger storage capacity and higher speed. It can store all kinds of films and computer data. The two are easily available in market at low prices. They are affordable to everyone today.

A number of differences set them apart. The first of them is the configuration of the disc. They are configured differently as a CD has fewer complications than a DVD. The most important is in respect to storage space. The CD has lesser amount of storage capacity as compared to a DVD. They are less reliable than DVDs. The movie watched at one go in a DVD can be recorded only in two to three CDs at a time.

The CD can be played in any first grade player but DVD needs a higher version of player. A DVD player can play a CD too. A computer can play normal CD but it cannot play a DVD directly. It needs a DVD ROM to play it. There are different technical processes to handle them.

The cost of a CD is quite different from that of a DVD. The CD is available at a much lesser price than a DVD. They are available anywhere in the market today and even a stationery shop has a variety of them. There are a lot of brands with different prices.

DVD can be used at a specific place only. The CD can be made a multisession disc but a DVD is not used for the same purpose. DVD can be used to store a movie but generally not for minor works of office assistance. The CD can be viewed in DVD ROM but a DVD cannot be viewed without the same. The same is true for a DVD writer where a CD can be viewed as well as written. Read the rest of this entry »

PlayStation DVDS

August 15th, 2008 by power

PlayStation is a particular high quality gaming console. The games run by console are of very high quality, both specification wise and graphically. You will not understand whether you are just playing a video game or watching a cinema. Everything seems almost real there.

PlayStations are gaming consoles. They can only run the game. However, to play the game, you need to have the game CD or DVD. PlayStations do not contain the games inbuilt. For that you need some DVDs, which are called PlayStation DVDs. There are lots of such DVDs available nowadays.

PlayStation DVDs almost look like normal DVDs. But they are somehow different from them. They do not run on a normal DVD player. They are specially made for PlayStations. That means to have only a DVD or a PlayStation is not important. You need to have both of them.

PlayStation is improving every year. Newer versions of them are emerging to satisfy gamers. All of them are providing new features. These new gizmos are offering so many new technologies that no one can resist the temptation to buy them.

There are lots of PlayStation DVDs available now. They offer different kinds of games. Some of them are love stories, epic games, mystery games, adventure games, racing games, etc.

For instance, look at the game called unreal tournament. It is totally an ‘arena’ game. There are two teams in this game. One is the ‘robot team’ and another is ‘human team’, though there are other races also. The player can choose any team he wants. After this, a combat will take place between the humans and the robots. The winner is chosen by following different winning policies. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you ever wondered why DVD is so popular a medium? It is interesting to note that in recent times the sale of Digital DVD players has skyrocketed. That should tell you how popular they have become.

The reason for such widespread popularity is the superior quality in both video and audio. A DVD movie is compressed in a high bit rate video and audio. If one compares a DVD and CD, then it would be found that the two encoding format are radically ifferent from each other.

A CD movie is compressed using the MPEG 1 compression technique. If bit rate is increased, it gives higher quality video file. Due to constraint in resolution, an MPEG 1 file could not go over 352 x 288 limitations in a CD. The CD player also does not support playing a CD, which is compressed, in a higher resolution.

To play a DVD you need Digital DVD players. A DVD in itself is the acronym of Digital Video Disk. The Digital DVD Players play disks made under two technical standards of DVD video and DVD audio. The player hardware has to be connected to output hardware, preferably a Television set. There are some portable players with a small LCD screen attached to it; but it fails to play the DVD to its full potential due to hardware portability.

Digital DVD players have to perform some basic tasks like reading a DVD in ISO or UDF 1.2 format. It can optionally decrypt the packed data in CSS and/or Macrovision. In DVD there is a protection code called Regional lockout Code. It enables the DVD of a certain portion of the world to be played in that part of the world only. The DVD player has the capability of changing the regional code; but it is only limited to change 5 times and not more. After that, the player cannot play DVD from other regions. How Can I Convert Avi to Dvd

July 30th, 2008 by power

AVI to DVD conversion has become a fairly common type of file conversion these days. It has become fairly easy to burn a movie stored on your hard disk in AVI format to a disk so that you can watch it on a standard dvd player. But what is the difference between the two formats anyway?

DVD
DVD is an acronym for Digital Versatile Disc or more commonly Digital Video Disc. The DVD technology stores its data in a type of optical disc storage media and can be used to store movies, graphics, sounds and multimedia. It is bigger and faster than a CD. The native DVD video application format mainly stores its files as VOB files with a .vob extension. These are easily viewable on a DVD player but may not be readable on your computer depending on the kind of software you use. Also, VOB files tend to be rather heavy and hence not exactly portable especially if you want to email the files to your friends.

AVI
AVI is an acronym for Audio Video Interleave. It is a Microsoft technology named after Avi Cohen. AVI is a container format that can store both sound and motion as a .avi extension and supports multiple streaming. AVI conforms to the Microsoft Windows Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) specification. Read the rest of this entry »
