Voodoo Envy 133

Now that I have used my Voodoo envy for a few weeks, it’s time to share how it worked for me. Voodoo is a powerful name in PC Gaming hardware, but let’s be clear: this is definitely *not* a gaming machine. The Voodoo envy is an ultra-light laptop that is really good at productivity tasks such as email, web browsing, excel and text editing. Think of it as the ultimate internet cafe machine: it is uber-light, will get you connected with the fastest WIFI, looks great on the table and is most likely a conversation starter even if conversations tend to be repetitive and start with “wow, what’s that laptop?”.

The industrial design is the greatest asset of this computer. It is thinner than the Macbook Air from end to end (0.7″) and it also looks so much classier. Very few people seem to have actually seen a Voodoo Envy 133 in the wild. Each time I hop into a meeting, people are watching the laptop instead of looking at the projector screen: you have been warned! Fortunately, I don’t sell anything, so that’s fine. There’s no need for a descriptive paragraph, just look at the photo gallery, it speaks for itself.

Nokia N97 on Your Hands Now

I have been able to play with a Nokia N97, Nokia’s first full-display smartphone, and let me tell you that this is the most exciting N-Series phone to date (even if I really like the E71, read review). The first thing that struck me was the size of the phone: it is much smaller and thinner than the official product photos would let one believe (uh-oh, someone might be getting into trouble here). Secondly, the user-interface, while familiar to S60 users, is finger-friendly. That sounds like a “duh”, but most Windows Mobile “touch-phones” aren’t (See our HTC Touch-Pro review). I will reserve my final comments and judgment for when the final software is released (sometimes in the first half of next year), but so far, I’m liking the direction in which this product going.

The physical design is very solid, and the first thing that I thought was: “hey, I wish that the T-mobile G1 was like this”.

How TV on Pc

According to a recent report on TV viewership data gathered by NBC (NY Times, October 17, 2008), free Internet
streaming is the most popular alternative to traditional television, accounting for roughly a quarter of total viewing based on field surveys of their TV episodes. Aside from streaming, paid downloads, VOD (video on demand) and mobile viewing were also assessed but their numbers were insignificant at best. The impressive amount of Internet streaming has indeed cast the writing on the wall for free TV on PC.

Actually, Internet TV is nothing new. It’s just that supporting infrastructure had not been in its favor in the early days. Conditions have advanced by heaps by now: broadband access, power PCs, super-sized storage and open hardware, software and networking. On top of it, internet user base volume has also long surpassed the critical mass level. The web is clearly rich for the picking by many an industry, not least Television.

Different kinds of television are distributed over the internet nowadays and the few most notable ones are Internet TV (ITV), Internet Protocol TV (IPTV), Broadband TV and User Generated Content TV (UGC TV). To broadly distinguish among themselves; ITV is free open-format video streaming, IPTV is closed and usually require set-top boxes governed under pay-per-view or subscription structure, Broadband TV is much like ITV with extended real-time interactive capabilities such as messaging, on-demand media, images and UGC TV are basically free-style individual short clips such as the immensely popular YouTube.

Plasma TV For Your Home

Can you believe that plasma TVs were invented by scientists looking to make a better computer monitor? This is the truth. Computers are the direct line from which LCD and plasma televisions
came. The computer’s development is both directly and indirectly responsible for so many technological breakthroughs for mankind. Due to the scientific community’s ever present and insatiable need to expand, develop and forge new trails through technology, we are afforded a greater viewing experience.

In 1964 this all started at the University of Illinois. During this period, computer monitors were basically just televisions. You should be aware that these televisions utilized cathode ray tubes for their picture. In order to display correctly they had to be repeatedly refreshed. This was the major trouble when a TV was used for a computer monitor. Yes it was alright for viewing TV programs, but the resolution for computers was very bad. At the closing of the year the initial plasma monitor was functioning.
